Yo Yo Shugs, ScHoolboy Q is in town this week for his SOLD OUT July 12th concert at Concord Music Hall and he has graciously chosen Shuga to roll through to sign his new album Blank Face out this Friday! In order to attend this event you must purchase his new album (currently only available on CD) at Shuga Records. One CD equals ONE entry and ONE entry equals ONE autograph. If you already bought a CD from somewhere else, grab another one. This one will get autographed!

L.A. rapper ScHoolboy Q specializes in hairpin turns from cautionary street tales and remorseful reflection into wanton bacchanal. His Interscope debut “Oxymoron” is essentially a volleyball match between his warring proclivities. His second LP “Habits & Contradictions” ranked an 8.4 on Pitchfork and labeled him the most promising foot soldier in Kendrick Lamar’s Black Hippy crew, a small circle of talented rappers currently reinventing West Coast hip-hop.

Aries

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Converge – You Fail Me Redux

Put this album on for speed, Aries. You are energetic and can even be aggressive at times – just like the punishing sound of this album. Scream along to this record while running – maybe even flip a table!

taurus

Taurus (April 20- May 20)

The Wonder Years – The Upsides

I once heard that Taurus’ are known to be stubborn and that they also enjoy high quality fabrics. Well, nothing is more stubborn than a kid just trying to leave his hometown and sing about some midterms. Slip on your best khaki shorts, grab a slice of za, and listen to the twinkly guitars/emotional vocals featured on this album.

Gemini

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Swans – The Glowing Man

You can be a little indecisive and unpredictable, Gemini. This album will hit you with a lot – sometimes it’s creepy, sometimes it’s pretty. Who knows what you like, though. Get some of your deep thinking done while blaring this album!

cancer

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Paul McCartney – Pure McCartney

You are sensitive and you love your fam. Paul McCartney wrote a song about his dog so you can probably relate. This record features some tearjerkers and some overly passionate songs, so you can now feel like the caring dad you’ve been dying to be.

Leo

Leo (July 23- August 22)

Whitney – Light Upon the Lake

You are determined and alluring, Leo. This album really sounds like something new – I don’t think I’ve heard the same genre used to describe it. You can be tender and genuine, which is why you’ll love listening to these sweet boys while cuffing your jeans.

Virgo Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Mumford and Sons with Baaba Maal, The Very Best & Beatenberg – Johannesburg

As a Virgo you are sympathetic and like to play things safe. Mumford and all of his sons will woo you into feeling more secure than you did in the womb. Listen to your maternal instincts and buy this album.

Gemini

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Charles Bukowski – Reads His Poetry

You like to read, so does Charles – hence this perfect album title. As a Libra you like company, and you’ll feel like part of the team – the beat writers that is – while listening to this record.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)Scorpio

Sumac – What One Becomes

You are very opinionated – some might even say brutal. There is nothing more punishing or stubborn than the riffs featured in this album. The tones are bold – just like you.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Hum – You’d Prefer An Astronaut

You like to contemplate life, you like exploring the world. You probably also like counting stars.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)capricorn

Radiohead – A Moon Shaped Pool

As someone who appreciates fine craftsmanship and professionalism, these pro-ass musicians will sooth you with some sonic majesty. You are serious and are hard working – so you better send Jonny Greenwood a thank you letter for all the intricate orchestral work featured on this album.

Aquarius

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

Claypool Lennon Delirium – Monolith of Phobos

As an Aquarius, you take risks and are often unconventional – like the pairing of musicians that wrote this album. You are open-minded and are willing to accept the atypical – a Sagittarius even told me that they wouldn’t have listened to this if I hadn’t put it on. This album is filled with a mixture of driving, upbeat, and catchy bass lines along with spacey psychedelic jams, which is perfect for your forward thinking lil soul. With bold sounds and tracks like “There’s No Underwear in Space,” you’ll get your avant-garde thinking done for the day. Have at it, Aquarius.

Pieces

Pisces (February 19th – March 20th)

Bed. – Klickitat

This dreamy album will be perfect to listen to when you’re alone and just want to “sleep in like babies,” Pisces (that’s totally a lyric featured on this record). You’re v emotional and so is this album. Be the sad fish in the shoegazy sea you’ve always wanted to be. I mean, or you could listen to some Phish.

Catfish And The Bottlemen Listening Party 5/26/16

THE RIDE LISTENING

Shuga Records will be hosting a Listening Party for Catfish and the Bottlemen’s new album “The Ride” this Thursday May 26th at 7pm! The night, which will most likely turn into an all-out dance party, will include the listening through of the 2nd album from the English rock band a day before it’s street release AND the raffling off of an autographed TEST PRESSING and ten 12×12 fuzzy velvet posters! So put on your dancin’ shoes and lets PARTY.
